Mary Greene Bio

Born: May 17, 1923
Banks County, Georgia

The daughter of a sharecropper, her father died when she was small leaving a large extended family. Mary's days were spent working on the farm She remembers a happy childhood filled with love. Mary started painting in her sixties after she retired. She is considered by some to be the next Grandma Moses.

Mary wants to share the memories of her life in the 1920's, 30's and 40's with future generations. Her work has been published in "Ford World Magazine" and in "Southern Homes". It is also in the private collections of President Jimmy , his daughter Amy Carter,and the late Senator Edward Kennedy; in the collections of the Museumof American Folk Art, New York, New York, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta GA., Georgia Council for the Arts, the Coca-Cola Company, Atlanta, GA., the South Carolina Arts Commission, the Environmental Affairs Department of Georgia Power, Brenau University, Gainesville, GA.: graced the cover of 'A Very Special Arts Exhibit - theArt of Self-Taught, 1997 calendar; exhibited in the office of Georgia Governor Zell Miller; 1991, included in 'Folk Art Welcomes the Olumpics' calendar, 1996
